[livejournal.com profile] bormor writes some one-off stories, but mostly they follow themes; there's the ones about the Princess, Prince and Dragon, the ones about the RPG group of Halfling, Barbarian, Half-elf and Princess and the various monsters they encounter, the ones about various Dark Overlords... sometimes they intersect.

I've been skipping some of these themes. There are several that hinge on a knowledge of Russian folklore: the ones involving Ivan the Fool, Koschei the Immortal, Vasilisa the Beautiful, various royalty that has been turned into toads until kissed, the old man and the wish-granting fish, Baba Yaga the witch who lives in the forest in the house on chicken-feet; also ones where part of the plot or punchline hinges on set phrases from Russian fairy tales in addition to just subverting their plots; and there are a rather large number about a pair of bumbling deities called Shambambukli and Mazukta, who go around creating worlds and discussing the creation of same as well as ways of persuading the inhabitants to stop burning each other at the stake in their creators' names already. ([livejournal.com profile] bormor, incidentally, is a practising jew and lives in Jerusalem).
