Original here.

As the two burly thugs with decisive faces loomed towards him out of the darkness, the youth took an involuntary step backwards.
"Who're you?" He swallowed nervously, back against the wall. "What do you want from me?"
The strangers did not deign to reply.
"This one OK?", the bigger, bulkier one asked.
"Looks as good as any to me", the other - almost a dwarf - shrugged.
The giant sized up the youth with a calculating glance.
"How old are you, mate?"
"Fif... fifteen. Almost sixteen."
The strangers exchanged glances.
"A good age," the smaller one said. "He'll do."
"Right", the taller one nodded. "Let's take him."
"Wait!" the youth shrieked as four arms grabbed him and dragged him into an alley that was already beginning to go blue. "Where are you..."

"...taking me?" He finished his sentence in another world.
The giant and the dwarf carefully lowered him onto the crimson grass.
"Wait here for now. Don't try to run."
"What's happe..."
"Oh, shut up", the giant waved him silent.
The youth looked around. The blue disk of the portal was shrinking quickly behind him. All around were ruins. Sharp mountains peaks rose in the distance, an unpleasant blood-red colour. High above them something spiky, with membranous wings hovered. The youth shuddered.
Three more strangers approached from the ruins: a thin, tall man with pointy ears, a bulky bearded man that barely reached to the youth's shoulders, and a half-naked girl covered in strange amulets.
"How did it go?", the pointy-eared one asked.
"Perfectly." The giant pointed with a finger. "There he is. Thanks for the portal, by the way."
"Trifles", the girl replied, but her lips nevertheless twitched into a self-satisfied smile.
"Now we wait", the pointy-eared one said. Everyone fell silent, watching the youth tensely. The latter shivered.
"Could you at least tell me where you've brought me? And more importantly, why?"
"It's all very simple, lad", the bearded one replied. "There's a great evil brewing in this world, and someone needs to intervene and save everyone. Usually this would be our job, but right now we have not the time. So all hope lies with you."
"With me?!" The youth jumped up. "Save the world?! But I can't do anything!"
"That's not important." The bearded guy waved a hand. "No-one's expecting anything from you yet anyway. You just sit there for a bit."
"Then I don't understand at all..."
"You don't need to understand," the girl said affably. "In fact, you'll be the last to understand anything at all. Don't look at me like that, no need to make those huge eyes, now."
"I was born with them like that", the youth muttered. He sat down in the grass and hugged his shoulders.
"Why me? Why me in particular? What's so special about me? Maybe you've made a mistake and you need someone else? I can't even swing a sword! Never mind a sword, I can't run a hundred meters! And I don't have any sort of superpowers, honest. I'm just a schoolboy..."
"Exactly", the giant nodded. "An ordinary Japanese schoolboy. The perfect bait."
"But I'm not..."
The youth was rudely interrupted. Something fell straight on top of him from the sky with a loud scream, toppling him onto the grass. A thin girl, with huge eyes, in a short skirt, with a sword twice her height.
"Nyaaa-a!", she cooed.
"AAAAAARGH!", the youth screamed. "Who the hell is that?!"
"Nyaaa-a!", the girl repeated.
"Sorted." The pointy-eared one nodded in satisfaction and beckoned the others. "Let's go. Our job here is done."

Soooo... Is the catgirl the impending doom that needed to be averted or a sign that he has been accepted as the new saviour?
