I passed my viva today.

Next on the list: persuade someone to employ me... :)

I am now officially Writing Up, and intending to get to final-ish draft by the end of May. I would seem to have ended up with a postdoc at NASA Ames, so I'd *better* more-or-less finish by then, or else...

As someone just starting their final year, this is all a bit scary...

Tell me about it! :-)

I'm a bit sooner than most in sorting out postdocs, but this was primarily because my supervisor was suggesting that I looked at JRFs which have a (stupid) 1 year or so lead time. As it happened, I did a bit of networking and also ended up with offers from ENS and NASA, both of which mean leaving the country (eek!). I've gone with the NASA option (childhood dream, and all that), but their timing is a bit critical because their funding tends to be pretty inflexible, so I'm having to *seriously* get my finger out of all things finger-holdy and go for it if I'm to stand a chance of completing in time. It's made a bit harder because I have some research money from the USAF which means I have to do some extra stuff (which is PhD thesisable, thankfully), but really I should have already finished all my research by now in an ideal world. Which it isn't, so lots of work for me. Mind you, I have managed to do a stapler job to cull about 38000 words of thesis from already-published papers, so I'm not starting from zero thankfully...

I'm meant to be doing some applying-for-postdoc funding quite soon, which seems like blind optimism to me, but at least worth a shot.

Must get publication out soon, accordingly.

yay!

Just saying hi as I've just friended you... I'm a friend (I think they'd say that?) of [livejournal.com profile] atreic and [livejournal.com profile] cathedral_life, in fact I'm using her computer right now (and will be blowing up her deflated air bed soon ;-))

I'm probably going to be going to Eden tomorrow, which my spies inform me to be the church you attend... I don't think you go to the morning services, but I thought I'd mention it just in case... I'll be the one with the backpack and sleeping bag.
